The Community Reserve at State Street Church

Tuesday November 30, 2010

Today the Reserve donated the clothing inventory to the State Street Church in La Porte, Indiana.
The inventory was sorted by size and gender and placed for pickup by the State Street congregation.  State Street Church operates a food pantry on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday each week.  This week, after picking up their food orders, the patrons can shop in the clothing drop. Normal traffic at the food pantry is more than 100 people.  Those persons will have access to free clothing all three days.  The plan is for any remaining items to go to the La Porte Goodwill store.

The Community Reserve will continue to accept gently used clothing for future needs in the area.

The Reserve's story

The Community Reserve is a ministry of the New Carlisle Wesleyan Church.

WHAT WE ARE:  The Reserve is a non-profit, all volunteer furniture bank, helping people establish a more comfortable home environment. The Reserve works in partnership with area churches, social workers, county trustees, homeless shelters, and social agencies.  We give donated items to people in need.

HOW WE OPERATE: We solicit good, serviceable, used furniture, household items and gently used clothing.  The items are stored in our storage building and we distribute them (FREE OF CHARGE) to clients who are referred to us by participating referral agencies.

PEOPLE WE SERVE:  Victims of devastating fires, natural disasters (storms and floods), domestic violence, divorce separation and other persons determined to be in severe need.

WHAT WE NEED: Donations that we can store for later use.
Volunteers for pick up, clean up and repair
Cash donations to pay current rental expenses

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A BUILDING TO USE AS THE STORAGE SPOT.  The rental units we are using are small and difficult to use.

We have been in operation for 11 months. We are a 501 (c) 3 non-profit, your donations to us are tax deductable.  To date we have given clothing and or furniture to 99 families which represent 352 individuals.
